DGC April Newsletter – New Term Starts: Apr 17th 2017

Please note our current term ends on 9th April and we return after 1 week on the 17th April.

Term fees must be paid by 16th April or a £5 late fee will be applied.

Kerry will be invoicing out everyone Tuesday 28th March.

Anyone who has not seen an invoice please check their spam folder or contact me.  Any queries regarding the invoice amount please contact me asap.

Fee increases to come:
Please be aware we will be raising our fees for April term for all new members and the June term for all current members.
We are giving the current members another term to get ready for the price increase.
The new fee will be as follows…
1st hour a week = £6
2nd hour a week = £6
Every hour after 2hrs in that week will be charged at a 50% discount = +£3
This means a 90 minute class will be £9

Why are we raising our prices?
The prices need to increase for a variety of factors, these include everything from the usual inflation rates to the fact our coaches are becoming more qualified and as such cost more. Also Sarah is adamant she wants our gymnasts to continue to learn at the rate they do and get the attention from coaches they need so the groups will remain on a 6:1 ratio. Most clubs will run in much larger groups but all this means is the children get less attention, less time on the equipment and more standing around being bored. To combat this rather than decrease the quality of teaching we have opted for the increase in cost. I know a lot of you have tried other clubs and will appreciate this makes a huge difference.

Anyone wishing to leave:
Please note we do not offer partial refunds for the term and require at least 1 weeks notice before the start of term in order to return deposits. Therefore please try and inform us as soon as possible if you intend to leave as not only will it get you your money back but we will be able to offer out the space to another child who is wanting to do gymnastics sooner.

Recent competition
We attended the South East tumble qualifiers in march and a great effort was made by all with 10 gymnasts brining home medals.

  • Club 1 Womens 8-9 Years – Cherry Carr – Gold, Charlotte Telford – Silver

  • Club 1 Womens 10-11 years – Charlie Connell – Gold

  • Club 1 Womens 12+ - Olivia Muca – Gold, Laya Moss – Silver, Julia Marolt – Bronze

These trampolining sessions will now be run by a qualified trampolining coach and will run as trampoline sessions rather than a gymnastics aid with a beginner’s class from 1pm to 2pm and an advanced class from 2pm to 4pm (this class is for more able trampolinists already able to perform basics moves well such as back drops & front drops).

Help needed - Fitness Instructors:
We are looking to introduce some fitness sessions for our squad gymnasts and would like to find instructors interested in running sessions at the gym club ideally every Tuesday & Thursday 7.30pm to 8.30pm in line with our term times.  What we are most interested in running is, one of these as something like a Zumba session and the other as a circuit style session looking at strength & flexibility.  If you know anyone that might be interested in running these sessions please ask them to email us at jobs@dysongymnastics.com as we would like to get something up & running as soon as possible in the new term.

Happy 2017 everyone. Please note our classes begin on 2nd January. We are open on Monday 2nd as normal.

Competition Squads:

After another very successful year of competitions we are looking to invite new members in to our GFA Tumble competition squad. This squad train for 1.5 hours per week on Sundays from 10am to 11.30am and take part in tumble competitions throughout the year generally in Hastings or Kent.  We are holding open auditions for children aged 6 and older on Wednesday 4th and Friday 6th January, if you would like to attend a trial please let Kerry know asap via email to Kerry@dysongymnastics.com

FOD (Friends of Dysons):
Thank you to Sam Adams & Emma Pope for all their hard work last year in helping with fund raising.  At the Xmas party and Xmas competition we raised £89.15 which is being held by myself currently to be used to buy more equipment.  Before we do this we would like to get a full sized Friends of group up and running which requires a secretary, a chair and a treasurer along with a second signature for all finances if you would be interested in any of these roles or would like to offer some time to help in other ways such as running fund raising events at the gym please email fod@dysongymnastics.com and we will try to organise a meeting at the gym club in February.

Trampoline sessions:
You may be aware we run trampolining sessions on some Saturdays at Portslade town hall.  The next sessions are on Saturday 14th & 21st January and 18th February they run for one hour and cost £5.00 which needs to be paid in advance.  We have sessions starting at 10am, 11.30am, 1.30pm & 3pm if you would like to sign up for any please contact Kerry@dysongyamsntics.com

 Jump for Pudsey update :
We received an update from British gymnastics stating that across the country the clubs have raised around £10,000 in the jump for Pudsey campaign and as we raised over one eighth of this money on our own out of many hundreds of clubs I feel this was a stunning achievement and wanted to thank everyone again that helped raise this money by taking part or helping on the day or through the week this was a really wonderful achievement for our club.  I hope you caught our gymnasts helping with the weather on the Children in need day in the BBC.

Invoices:
Invoices for all terms in this school year (listed above) are being created at the moment and will be emailed out to everyone by the end of next week.  You only need to pay for the upcoming term and later ones will have a due date of the last day before the term begins.  We are emailing them out now for ease and your reference, If anyone leaves before then or changes hours etc we will modify the future invoices as needed.
If anyone receives an incorrect invoice please contact kevin asap.
Anyone not receiving invoices or newsletters etc please check spam folders as they often go there but failing this please contact Kevin@dysongymnastics.com to resolve.

Parking:
Please remember there is no parking allowed on site at Ralli Hall. Please check our this page for information of places to park in the surrounding area.
Due to the high volume of small children coming in and out of the property we would ask for extra vigilance to any drivers around the surrounding area. Also as there are drivers who are allowed in the car park could parents keep a close watch on their children and not let them run off.

Job opportunities:
We are always on the lookout for unqualified but eager trainees for teaching gymnastics. We offer 50% funding on gymnastic courses as well as providing in house training for those interested.
We are also looking for experienced coaches if anyone knows of any please let them know.
Both roles would need the person to be able to commit to working the full day 4pm – 7.30pm but how many and what days are flexible.
Those over 16 will need a DBS which we will organise.
Please contact jobs@dysongymnastics.com if you would like more details.

Thanks to all:

I would like to say a big thanks to all the coaches, parents and children who have made this year a great one. From helping at club competitions, traveling and supporting us and the children at various events, donating cakes, time and for some clocking in some quite horrific driving hours and time to help coaches further their education it is with great thanks and appreciation to these people who help make the gym club better for everyone.

Wishing everyone a lovely holiday and a happy new year, we hope to see everyone back for week commencing Jan 2nd 2017!

If you leave:
We have been willing to refund people back mid-term if they leave part way through the term providing we get notice etc. However going forward we will no longer be offering any refunds for any children stopping mid-term. Please only sign up for a term (7 weeks) if you intend to complete it.
This does not affect your deposits which will still be returned providing we get at least 1 weeks’ notice and there are no outstanding fees owed.

Dyson Gymnastics Satellite Venue for Trampolining
Due to some unfortunate events we are no longer running a regular Monday trampolining club.
Sarah (head coach) will on some Saturdays be running a trampolining session as a gymnastics teaching aid for anyone interested. Next session is Oct 15th.

Please note Nicky is no longer working for Dyson Gymnastics so anyone who signed up to work with her and wishes to cancel please let us know.

Job opportunities:
Please note we are always on the lookout for unqualified but eager trainees for teaching gymnastics. We offer 50% funding on gymnastic courses as well as providing in house training for those interested.

South East Regional Tumble Championships:
Dyson gymnastics took part in the recent event in Hastings and came home with 5 golds and 3 silvers and a lot of great effort from all those taking part. Over all age categories we came 2nd in Level 1 (Lauren Ogilvie), 2nd in Level 2 (Esme Quidus) and 1st in Level 3 (Anya Lynn).

Tumble level one:
Womens 12+years: Lauren Ogilvie Gold, Emma-Jane Gardner Silver
Mens 12+: Leon Dyson-Rix Gold

Tumble Level two:
Womens 8-9 years: Esme Quidus Gold
Womens 12+: Rebecca Bushby Gold, Ava Prescott Silver

Tumble Level 3:
Womens 12+: Anya Lynn Gold, Keeley Cripps Silver

Badges:
Children will work on badges one week in each term (7 weeks), they will work through a list of criteria ticking off as they accomplish the items on a sheet.

It can take multiple sessions to complete the 10 tasks involved for each badge so don’t be alarmed if you don’t see a successful completion of a badge every time these are run.

If a child gets stuck on the initial badge levels from 8-1 we will sometimes sidestep them on to the bronze badges which can be more achievable or for those aged 5 and under the preschool badges.

Once the sheet is completed it is signed by the coach and handed to the child who will hopefully pass to you. If you want a badge and certificate to show this has been accomplished you pay for them usually in an envelope with the money and the sheet and we will process it. Buying badges is optional and cost £5 per badge and certificate. Medals which are available at the completion of badge 1 are also £5.

Please hand the sheet back with the money or reference the badge number on the BACS payment with your child’s name so we know what badge we are writing out for you.

We will keep record of what badges they are doing (starting from beginning if needed).

Dyson Gymnastics Club Yearly Membership (Sept to Aug)
As mentioned through email we are introducing a Dyson Gymnastics Club membership of £5 for all gymnasts. The prime reason is we are now large enough to be eligible to pay VAT on all incoming money. This means we couldn’t continue to offer the same prices and carry on. However we believe a small yearly fee of £5 from everyone will be enough of an offset to carry on without raising the price of term fees throughout the year. The club membership also covers some of the admin of raising insurance details and payments to British Gymnastics etc which takes a long time with 400+ gymnasts.

Dyson Gymnastics Club Competition
Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers we had throughout the day. Coaches, Gymnasts, Friends and Parents along with budding bakers who all kindly donated to the cause in helping make the competition a success.
We managed to raise £535 all of which has gone towards new equipment for the children which Sarah has already managed to spend and then some in purchasing  new equipment for the club (look out for some nice new foam wedges, bar rings and a throw mat).

Gym for Life
At the end of July the display squad went to the Gym for life event at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.  This was a weekend event where they performed a 6 minute routine on the stage on the Saturday which was judged by a panel in the audience and then on the Sunday they performed a shorter 3 minute version of the routine and pins were awarded to the groups based on their Saturday performance.  This was only the second time we have attended a display event and for some of the members of the squad it was their first time performing in one.  This was done in front of a huge audience and was both a nerve racking and exhilarating opportunity for the gymnast with our team bringing home bronze pins.  We are now preparing for our next display event in November GymFusion.

Dyson Gymnastics Satellite Venue for Trampolining
We are proud to announce we have started up a small trampolining club held at Portslade Town Hall every Monday and some Saturday’s. At the moment spaces are very limited but if anyone is interested the sooner we add you to the waiting list the better. We do have some spaces for children up to 6yrs old to start from 3.30pm on Monday (parent must be present). In addition to weekly Monday sessions Sarah is organising some Saturday classes over the year (1 or 2 a month) which also has spaces but is more one off occasions but they can be booked in multiple sessions in advance if desired. All of these are first come first served. Anyone interested please email me at the usual address kevin@dysongymnastics.com
The cost is £5 an hour or £10 for 2 hours and children will still need both British gymnastics membership and Dyson’s Club membership (any current gymnasts at Dyson’s should have these and won’t need anything additional).

Dyson Gymnastics Invoicing
As you should have seen by now we are invoicing out all fees through Xero. We are new to this and there may be the odd glitch or missing data so anyone who believes there is a problem or has not seen any invoices as yet please let me know. New joiners won’t receive anything based on only attending a taster session. You can still pay in the usual method either in an envelope with cash at the club or via BACS. We had to remove the Paypal option as Paypal were wanting to charge too much for their service.

Staff update: Hello & goodbye
We are sorry to lose 2 of our coaches for the new term. Sophie and Donna have decided it’s time to move on and we wish them all the best in their future endeavours. We do have a new starter who some of you may have seen a little of already in Laura who is an extremely talented coach and we wish her a long and happy career at Dyson’s. We also have a potential new coach trialling soon.

Coaches wanted
As always we are on the look out for both trainee and qualified coaches. Anyone interested please email jobs@dysongymnastics.com for more details.

DGC 2nd Annual club competition Sunday 7th August

Each year we run a gymnastics competition that is available for all our members to take part in, this competition is made so that children of any ability can take part.

We will be offering the following competitions that can be entered by all gymnasts and will be charged at £10.00 per gymnast for the first one then £5.00 per additional competition:

Floor : gymnasts will be able to choose a floor routine from a list of 18 routines starting as simple as ‘one leg balance, star jump, stretch jump’ for our youngest gymnasts up to ‘arabesque, walkover, handstand forward roll, stretch jump, cartwheel’ for our more able gymnasts.  Gymnasts will be grouped by age with each age category receiving a first second and third place medal and all runner ups receiving a ribbon.

Beam : there are 8 routines the gymnasts can choose from and this will come with medals for the first 3 places but will not have ribbons for runners up.

Acro : this is done in pairs so they will need to find a partner before entering (ideally they want one strong ‘base’ and one tiny ‘top’), there are 5 routines to choose from and the first 3 places will receive medals (for both partners) but no runner up ribbons.

All training for these competitions will be done on 3rd & 5th August between 1.30pm and 3.30pm so gymnasts will need to sign up for one of the two training sessions at £10.00 for the 2 hours.

Squad gymnasts may enter the beam or Acro competition as per the above but should they wish to take part in floor they will need to enter Tumble level 1,2,3 or 4 rather than the recreational routines.

Timings for the day will be advised within a week of entry being closed on July 17th 2016.
